Play By EMail Diplomacy

As most of you know, Diplomacy is originally a board game, and a fine game it is. We all like to play it allot but sometimes we find it hard to gather 7 players to play the game. Play-By-Email Diplomacy should give an answer to all your prayers ! The Internet gave a great solution to this problem: players from all around the world can play against eachother, and instead of talking directly to eachother, discussion is made through emails. Several variants have evolved from these normal settings, such as NoPress (no discussion at all, only tactics), NoPartial (all discussions are public, no private talks between players) - but the most common is the standard settings. There is one website that is by far the best, most detailed and updated resource in the Internet, concerning Diplomacy - and among all things also email Diplomacy. It's called The Diplomatic Pouch . After finishing your visit here, go check it out. You won't regret Bookmarking/favoring it... There are some ways of playing Diplomacy over the net, and the most popular way is through Judge Play. These are Web servers that run Diplomacy games for human players. There are hundreds of games played there, and thousands of players. Games of all sorts and kinds, variants and press settings. In order to play there, you have to register yourself on the judge. It's very easy to play there, but since it is, after all, a machine that runs the games (it receives orders and adjudicates the results), there will be some interface learning you'll have to do. Most people (myself included) think the learning time will be well spent. After you've registered, you'll probably want to read The Newbies' Guide to the Judge . More experienced players are always encouraged to read The Diplomacy Player's Technical Guide as well. After you've done all that, and you're ready to join a game, you may want to put yourself in the DP's game Queue , or check out the Judge's games Openings List . The other popular way of playing is in Diplomacy communities, places where human GMS open games and run them for other humans. The games there are formed a little differently, GMs advertising games or answering request. The human GMs adjudicate the moves. This may be a little user-friendly than the judges, but there are significantly less players there, and the number of games/variants is much smaller.
