All you want to know about playing Diplomacy the Board game

Diplomacy - The story of the game.

From the creation of of the game fifty years ago in 1959, the Diplomacy Game is  the  oldest board game to survive, except for maybe chess, and continues to be updated to suit the gamers of our times.

The board game is a reproduction of a map of Europe and  parts of North Africa and Middle East, and can be "played" by five to seven players.

Each player represents one of seven nations in the Europe map as it was at 1901.

There are 56 land regions, of which 14 land regions are neutral and 42 land regions divided among seven superpowers of Austria-Hungary, England, France, Germany, Italy, Russia and Turkey and there are 19 regions of the sea.

In his land of origin each player has two military units, namely the army (land) and Fleet Marine (sea).

You should also  know that the Diplomacy Game does not have a game piece that could  give you some lucky chances of winning like dice, There is no element of chance , You have to depend on your own "diplomatic" skills , and strategic planning.

Spring season of the year 1901 is the starting point of the game.
In each year, every player makes two moves - one for spring and another for autumn, all players make their moves simultaneously , In the first turn you can move your  military units (armies and fleets of the Navy) to a new position on the board with the following options:

1) move to a contiguous area to support the support of units in the area.

2) to adjacent units attack on an ally in its territory.

3) defend.

4) hold to its current position.
After deciding, You only have to write down the "orders" to instruct your military units.

Game usually starts with negotiations phase  where players can form alliances either secretly or openly and coordinate their next steps and moves , each turn in the game will be followed by a negotiation phase like that .

Then each player writes his moves and then all the players submitted their orders for a Game Master to read and "activate" on the board according to the rules.

The main idea is to anticipate and predict the moves of other players.

A player can lose or gain a supply center - after each  fall "turns" of the game correspondingly with his (and all other players) unit stands on the map.

A player that have more supplies centers than military units on board can build a new game-units on a free home-based supply center  to match the numbers , or reduce one if he has more units than owned supply centers .

Any player who has no supply centers left is eliminated while the player with 18 or more of the 34 supply centers wins the Diplomacy Game!

You will want to play this board game because it is more of a thinking game and players can become allies or opponents anytime.

We can sum up Diplomacy most important attribute (other than being extremely fun )  as a game that has more thinking than any other "social" game, and also has more social parts to it than the usual "thinking" game.

It is that simple really.
